Cannabidiol, commonly known as CBD, is becoming a topic of discussion because of the health benefits it offers. It is an excellent option for the treatment of many health problems like stress, anxiety, depression, pain, epilepsy, skin problems, etc.
CBD topical is the new star in the cosmetic industry. Topicals like CBD creams, lotions, balms, and ointments provide remedy for various skin problems such as acnes, psoriasis, eczema, etc.
Does CBD Cream Work for Acne?
Acne is the most common skin condition in teenagers. It occurs because of the excess production of sebum from the sebaceous gland located under the skin. Sebum is the skin lubricant that prevents the skin from drying out. Sebum carries the dead cells shed by the hair follicles out of the body. When the sebum with the dead cell mixes up with dirt and other pollutants, it becomes clogged in the pores and becomes acne.
Most studies surrounding CBD and acnes are looking for the effect of CBD on reducing the excess oil production, which is the main cause of acnes in teenagers. A study conducted in 2014 shows that CBD can affect the sebocyte cells that produce sebum. CBD prevent the cells from producing excess sebum and thereby reducing the formation of acnes on skin.
The anti-inflammatory properties of CBD also help in preventing inflammatory cytokines to activate. Cytokines can be a reason for the formation of acnes. CBD also has antibacterial and antifungal effects that protect the skin from infections caused by dirt and other pollutants.
CBD Creams for Body Acne
Since body acnes and facial acnes are caused by the same reasons, CBD creams could help in removing body acnes. Neck, shoulders, chest and back have more sebaceous glands than the rest of the body and acnes show up there regularly. Many cosmetic companies are incorporating best CBD extracts into their skin care products for the prevention of acnes and other problems associated with the skin.
Can CBD Remove Acne Scars?
Even though you are able to prevent acne from your face, it will leave a scar on the skin. A recent study conducted on 20 participants with scars related to dermatitis and psoriasis showed positive results for the use of CBD on the removal of scars.
When CBD enriched cream is applied on the scars of the participants for a period of three months, a significant improvement in the appearance of skin was seen. Even though the study was not on acne scars, it shows promise that CBD can reduce the appearance of scars on the skin.
